Listen to some live 8-bit today through Saturday (8pm-1am each night) thanks to indie radio station WFMU!
The site for the first edition of @party (and more to come, if we’re lucky
will be the Friendly Crossways hostel and retreat center in east-central Massachusetts. It’s a far cry from the hotels and business centers of most US conventions, with a cozy space for 40-80 visitors and all their eating, sleeping, and showering needs. Not to mention a big field outside to soak in the June weather. Here are some photos inside and out, so you can imagine how to fill it up with your hardware and creativity!

After all the 8-bit goodness that has blessed New York City and the east coast in the form of the annual Blip Festival and the monthly Pulsewave, the west coast gets their own mini chiptune tour in the form of DataBeez this November. Starting on the 7th in LA, it works its way up to San Francisco on the 12th, then Portland and finally Seattle on the 20th. There, they will be blessed with visuals from Guybrush/Northern Dragons and Blackpawn/XPLSV. They have already started work on some interesting effects in Processing. Would you like to see a sample? Here’s a Youtube clip. Musical performers will include Minusbaby, Starpause (aka K9D/Northern Dragons), Leeni, Mr. Spastic, and Crashfaster.
The NA demoscene has made some nice textmode demos in the past, and soon you can show them off again!
In TMDC, the Textmode Demo Compo, 12th edition, you can submit your stuff from 11/11/2009 to 12/12/2009.
An official invitation is on the way – but you don’t have to wait for it to start your demo! The rules are the same as last year, for now.
Blip Festival is back for its fourth year, brought to you by 8bitpeoples and The Tank, and returning to the Bell House in Brooklyn NY this December. The website is up as well as a partial list of performers (over a dozen musicians and video artists so far, and at least a dozen more expected). Get ready for one of the wildest chip music experiences in the world!
Also, there is a 2-CD live compilation from Blip Festival 2008 available at https://www.8bitpeoples.com/store/product/65, or listen to it online at http://2playerproductions.bandcamp.com/.
We’re excited to announce another new US demoparty, this one a summer retreat coming next year. @party will be held in mid-June at a meeting hall & hostel in Harvard, Massachusetts (the town, not the university), about 30 miles northwest of Boston and a few hours from New York City and Montreal.
The official website is here. More info will surface in the next few months.
Also, be sure to fill out their survey, so they know what compos and activities people are interested in.
@party discussion is welcome in our forum.
Another new demoparty in the US may be born soon! Nurupo (which is Japanese slang for “NullPointerException”) is in the early planning stages. It will be held in conjunction with MAGFest, a video game art/music/film festival in Alexandria, VA. Music, graphics, and wild competitions are planned so far to warm up the regular crowd. Keep your eyes peeled here:
